smith + co studio inc, formed in 1986, by founder Chuck Smith, is a vision studio incorporating a multitude of design disciplines in order to achieve a truly complete project.

“I believe that an Architectural Design conceived in isolation cannot be wholy successful without first considering how Interior and landscape design influence the outcome as well. Just as a thorough examination of the unique uses of the space is necessary before an idea of the form can be determined… end user input is critical to the success of every design problem.”

Though his extensive career as a multidiscipline designer Chuck has helped hundreds of clients achieve their dreams. From illustrating in public forums for Civic centres and public rail lines to highly customized designs for restaurants and retail stores. From the design of small utility sheds to large estate homes Chuck sees every project as a unique challenge in and of itself. Not satisfied to stay behind his desk Chuck has also ventured into the construction/development industry to explore solutions to current issues such as food security and accessibility through vertical farming ideas and replacement housing for disaster stricken areas through modular housing in Canada and abroad.

“Design styles, either new or reinterpreted, are like languages that clients wish to have translated into a vernacular that they can relate to.”

“Building Construction is based on a series of processes. The designer’s keen understanding of those processes and the clear communication of a design idea is paramount in reaching a successful conclusion.”

“Regardless of the size or the budget, every project has the potential to be fabulous, limited only by the courage to explore every design possibility.”

Chuck Smith, Principal.

“The potential to find beauty is everywhere in design from the subtle curves of a handrail to the gentle curves in a road and must not be left to chance.”
